The field of urban transportation in India has got significant changes in the past few decades owing to the large investments made in infrastructure projects and due to the advancements in planning, operation and management of transportation facilities. Planning of urban transport infrastructure projects requires an accurate estimation of travel demand. This necessitates the understanding of the basics of travel demand modelling approaches as well as advanced approaches like activity based travel demand modelling. Further, the efficient operation and management of urban transportation facilities requires advanced tool like Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which has already proved successful in many developed countries. Hence, detailed understanding of various components and applications of ITS in the context of developing countries like India becomes a key necessity. Keeping these objectives in mind, the present workshop will provide an in-depth understanding of both fundamentals and recent trends in the area of transport planning and traffic engineering through relevant presentations by experienced professionals.
